Onex/Rotax Flies

Cooper Aircraft Corporation punctuated the release of their updated installation kits with flight of thier first Rotax 912/Onex installation. The aircraft, completed for Onex builder Mark Ferstl, uses their new cooling system designed to work with Sonex Ring Mounts. The Onex with 100hp Rotax 912ULS posted some impressive performance numbers with sustained climb rates of 1,300 to 1,400 fpm at 100 mph with outside air temperatures of 80 degrees on the ground at their Tuscon, AZ base of operations. Cruise speeds were clocked at 165 mph IAS and 180 mph TAS at 5300 RPM and 4,000′ msl. At the same altitude, max continuous RPM of 5500 RPM yields 170-175 mph IAS and 190-195 mph TAS. All climb and cruise testing were performed with temperatures in the green.
