“This is what happens when Sonex builders have to wait…” wrote Sonex-B builder James Yrineo, “Chris waiting on a kit and me waiting for my first grandchild to be born.” Let’s face it, many participants in our hobby have “Grandparent” listed in their resume, or soon will. James Yrineo, builder of Sonex B serial number SNB0039, wanted to gift his daughter and her soon-to-arrive first child with an inspiring story about pursuing your dreams based on his own personal experience. With the help of Sonex Highwing customer Chris Atwood, James created a 22 page hard-bound children’s book for his grandchild entitled “Grandpa Builds An Airplane”.
“Chris used ChatGPT to create a Sonex story in the style of Dr Seuss,” writes James. “I naturally couldn’t resist turning it into a book for my first grandchild (a boy) due December while also waiting for good weather to keep flight testing. We thought you’d get a kick out of it.” Boy did we ever get a kick out of this story, so much so that we asked James for permission to make this post!
James agreed but asked us to wait until he could gift the book to his daughter. So now that you see this (we’re a few weeks late in posting, sorry), the book has been gifted, and the Yrineo family has also been gifted an early arrival as-well: “Well, all clear to publish this in the most surprising way,” wrote James, “Last Monday I climb into my tree stand at 6:30am, my daughter called at 6:45am to tell me she had gone into labor! The little lad was 5 weeks early but mom and baby are all healthy and happy. Good to know I’ve got the next generation of Sonex builder all lined up…”
