A simple but highly effective solution...

As an EFIS hardware platform, the iEFIS breaks the tasks it conducts down into separate modular multi-processor units that all communicate on a reliable CAN bus network (similar to the automotive industry). This results in a robust system in which each device on the network has very specific tasks to handle. This is coupled with intense low power design methods to further maximize overall system application and reliability.

The large amount of flexibility built into the base system allows the adaptation of the iEFIS to almost any mission and aircraft. The iEFIS screens can be completely edited by the user using a simple PC program to create any display the user desires.

MGL V16 Com

Razor 3 1/8" Touchscreen Control

Vega 2 1/4" Control

What makes the V16 so special?

Modular Design: The V16 is a split design remote-mount Com Radio that is controlled via a separate controller/EFIS.

Pick Your Controls: The V16 Com Radio can be controlled by a mix (and any number) of Razor or Vega Control Heads. This means you can have dual left seat and right seat radio displays and controls, or front and back (for tandem seat aircraft). It can also be controlled directly by an MGL Avionics iEFIS, with or without Razor/Vega Controls.

Big Power: The V16 Com Radio boasts 10 Watts of Transmit Power (unmodulated carrier).

Low Cost: Designed with modern components and ingenuity for the lowest cost.

SL30/SL40 Compatible: When the V16 is paired with a Razor/Vega control, the control can be connected to any EFIS or display that communicates with SL30/SL40 protocols, to tune the radio and load frequency lists.

2 Channel VOX Intercom: The V16 includes a 2-place intercom with a wide-range VOX system. Multiple headsets can be connected to the Passenger channel if necessary. The advanced voice-activated intercom provides clear audio in noisy cockpits. In extreme cases the intercom can be activated via a switch connected to V16 (intercom PTT).

RX Playback "Say Again": The V16 can replay up to a minute of the last several transmissions. Miss a clearance from ATC? No problem - simply hit the Playback button on your Razor Control head or use a switch connected to discrete input in V16 Com to replay the last transmission. Hit the button again to play the previous transmission.

Designed for OEM Use: A full Interface Control Document (ICD) is published to allow for third party use of the V16 Com radio. Ideal for drone / UAV applications or for integrating with full glass panel systems where a remote VHF Com is required.

More Features:
  • Auxiliary Audio/Music input with auto-mute
  • TX Interlock for dual radio installations
  • Built-in SWR Meter to check antenna matching. Good antenna match will result in VSWR of 1.3 or less (ideal would be 1.0, which would mean no reflected power.

Based on the digital technology intruduced in the V10, the V6 provides the same powerful 6W transmitter and modulation system. Designed for 25Khz spacing with 8.33Khz compatible operation selectable, the dual scan receiver boasts the fastest scanning time which means no loss of reception quality during receive of the standby channel.

100 channel storage and channel operating mode compatible with the V10. Four place, dual circuit intercom system with full isolate. Each intercom microphone input has its own level control and VOGAD noise suppression system. Dual PTT inputs. Black box flight recorder audio output.

The intercom outputs are fully stereo with a dedicated stereo music input plus two auxiliary channels for mobile phone and EFIS annunciators.

The V6 radio fits a standard 2 1/4" round instrument hole from the rear and provides simple mounting due to captive nuts.

What makes the V6 so special?

Small Size: The V6 fits in a round 2 1/4" instrument hole, but has a mounting depth of only 4.2" + connectors!

Light Weight: Approximately 8.8 oz (about 0.5 lb). One of the lightest out there - great when every ounce counts!

Powerful: 6 full Watts of transmit power. Huge power for a small package.

Digital Interface: Set frequency on the radio from an MGL Avionics EFIS or any equipment capable of setting frequency on the SL40 radio.

Knobs: Frequency and volume selection is via standard multifunction knobs. Frequency knob is intelligent and will tune in big steps when you rotate it quickly and in 25 khz steps when you slow down.

Remote Mount Version Available: Want to control the V6 Com from your EFIS with no extra cut-out in your panel? Get the remote-mounted V6R.

Full Stereo: The V6 features a stereo intercom that allows you to listen to stereo music if you connect a music player to the aux audio input (requires stereo headsets). Music automatically mutes down on receive/transmit. There are also 2 mono audio inputs for EFIS alarm annunciator and phone connection.

4 Microphone Channels: The V6 has 4 individual microphone channels for independent level/VOGAD settings for each mic.

Independent Radio/Intercom Volume Controls: The V6 allows you to ‘turn down’ the radio volume while keeping the intercom volume high, for use in busy radio environments.

Isolate Modes: Want to let your passenger enjoy the ride while you do the hard work in the left seat? Select one of the V6 isolate modes.

Built-in VOX / VOGAD Intercom: The V6 features a high quality intercom system (not a ‘hot mic’ - this intercom is really usable as your primary intercom!). The intercom has 4 independent microphone channels. There are several modes of operation for the intercom, including VOX options and MGL Avionics’ proprietary VOGAD system. VOGAD (or voice-operated gain-adjusting device) works by adjusting the gain of the microphone as your speak based on the level of your voice. This has the effect of eliminating background/engine noise between your words as you speak and can be used with simple passive headsets to produce the results normally obtained using expensive active noise cancelling headsets. It doesn’t ‘break squelch’ like a VOX intercom - it is activated by your voice and is constantly adjusting to your voice level. (Click here for more on VOGAD).

Transponder and ADS-B Options from MGL

MGL Avionics offers Transponder and ADS-B In-Out Options for all MGL EFIS systems. 2020 Compliant ADS-B can be implemented with MGL Avionics using the Sandia Mode C transponder with 978MHz (978UAT) frequency. We also offer upgrade packages if you already have an MGL system with Mode C transponder and need to add ADS-B. NOTE (04/16/19): since the Flight Data Systems Pathfinder is no-longer in production, MGL does not currently offer a Mode S solution for ADS-B In.

UAT vs. 1098ES: What's the difference?
While there are complex technical differences between the two ADS-B frequency methods, it all boils-down to where you are flying. For most Sonex Aircraft customers in the United States, UAT is the best choice as it is less expensive and in the case of the uAvionix EchoUAT system we provide, it receives more traffic monitoring signal types (UAT, 1090ES, TIS-B and ADS-R). UAT can be used in the United States only, and only at altitudes under 18,000 feet MSL (excluding altitudes over 18,000 feet MSL but less-than 2,500 feet AGL). If you need to fly outside of the United States with ADS-B compliance, or over 18,000 feet MSL, you will need to use 1090ES.

Other Instruments, Accessories and Options

In addition to the packages above, there are several other optional items available including MGL headsets, fuel flow computers & fuel system senders, transponders, etc. Many of the items listed here are available as options when ordering the packages above, some come with our instrument packages as-standard, and some duplicate functions already available in EFIS system packages above, so be sure to check package features & contents listings before ordering individually.
