Waiex W0080

Dear Friends,

After 5 1/2 years of mostly daily and mostly enjoyable kit building, my new airplane, Waiex N80YX, took to the air last night, Friday, Aug 17. What a thrill! I'm still grinning! Yes, some issues were uncovered. Yes, I had to abort the first landing attempt, but the plane flew GREAT and all she needs is a few tweeks and a bit more experience for the pilot. Many people deserve my thanks, my long suffering wife who put up with what she calls my "mistress" for so long (at least she always knew where I was), many GREAT EAA Chapter friends, especially fellow Waiex builder Lorin Miller, and Scott Scheetz and Larry Vande Voort who honed my very old tail-dragger skills. And, Jim Robinson who taught me that I CAN build an airplane. I started this project for the joy of the building but after nearly twice the expected build time I'm glad to have moved from building to flying!
Cheers and blue skies to you all!
Doug
