Sonex Aircraft has Successful Showing at 2014 Sebring U.S. Sport Aviation Expo!
01-23-14

The Sonex booth at Sebring enjoyed brisk attendance throughout the show!

Sonex Aircraft, LLC recently exhibited at the 2014 Sebring U.S. Sport Aviation Expo for the second year in a row, and the show was a great success for Sonex! Sonex founders John and Betty Monnett manned the booth again this year for the January 16-19th event held in Sebring, FL. The Sonex booth was moved from an indoor exhibit space in 2013 to an outdoor booth in 2014 featuring local customer-built aircraft.

Special thanks goes to Mike January, founder and president of the Florida Sonex Association, for providing his nicely built Waiex S/N W0023 as the primary display aircraft throughout the show, bringing it in from his home in Homosassa, FL. Joe Haycraft also brought his Sonex S/N 9 in from Naples, FL for display in the booth for a day as-well, while several other local Sonex pilots flew-in to the show throughout the week.

Attendance in the Sonex booth was strong, as-was attendance of three forums presented by John during the show. There was much interest in homebuilt aircraft at the show, and many people visited just to see a Sonex Aircraft in-person for the first time.

No, that's not John Monnett's twin brother (that we're aware of). On the left is Mike January, who graciously donated his beautiful Waiex as the primary display aircraft in the Sonex Aircraft booth at Sebring 2014, and donated his time to speak to interested visitors. L to R: Mike January, Betty Monnett, John Monnett.

Congratulations to Kerry Fores, who celebrates his 11-year employment anniversary at Sonex Aircraft, LLC this month! Reminder: Visit us at the Sebring U.S. Sport Aviation Expo, January 16-19, 2014!
01-15-14

Sebring starts tomorrow! Check us out at the 2014 Sebring U.S. Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, FL. We are located at outdoor aircraft display space, booth# 106.

Sonex Aircraft pilots are encouraged to fly-in to the event, as Sebring organizers are now allowing LSA fly-in traffic to park on the ramp immediately adjacent to show grounds — you are no-longer required to park across the airport as-in past years! Aircraft camping is also permitted at this year’s Expo! (contact Sebring Airport at 863.655.6455 for full fly-in display area parking/camping details and information.) Several members of the Florida Sonex Association are planning to attend with their aircraft on-and-off throughout the show, so you may be able to see multple examples of Sonex Aircraft.

Sonex founders John and Betty Monnett will be at the booth again this year, and John will be presenting the following forums:

  • AeroVee Engine & AeroInjector: Sport Pilot Power
(will include the latest info on the Turbo AeroVee project)

Congratulations to Dale Barkley of Paris, Illinois whose AeroVee powered Xenos (S/N X0045) flew for the first time on December 26th! "Flew straight and level on first flight," writes Dale. Sonex Flying Stories:
Low-Level Sonex Fun Around the Globe!
01-03-14

With all of the versatility and capability of Sonex Aircraft for many different kinds of flying, there's no denying that the primary mission of our designs is to have fun! Much of that fun comes at 500 ft AGL and below. In today's update to our Sonex Flying Stories page, we bring you videos from three Sonex pilots having fun well-under 500 feet at opposite ends of the earth!

  • Colorado Flight Time in a Sonex
Gary Motley brings us some low-level flying in Colorado, from the Eastern plains, over river and frozen lake, to the mountains. A little more altitude is required for some mountain time near Pikes Peak then around to Colorado Springs to meet up with another Sonex flyer for some airtime and pictures.

  • Faran Weekend
Sonex builder Doron Mishor is one of only a handful of Sonex Aircraft customers in Israel. See the beauty of the Israeli Negev Desert landscape in this video, documenting a weekend trip of fun low-level flying for Doron and his friends in a diverse group of sport aircraft.

  • Tex Montes De Oca Crazy Flight
One only needs to spend a minute on the YouTube channel of Tex Montes De Oca of Ecuador to see that he's a thrill seeker. Under the subject of "Don't Try This at Home Kids," Tex flies the Sonex built by German Cardenas Alvarez at low-level down the fierce whitewater of the Toachi River, then shows us some sky diving out of a helicopter.
