Sonex Philosophy

Sonex aircraft are built and flown for fun. Plane and simple. The "Reality Check" in our logo stands for the fact that most of the average sport pilot's flying is done locally, in good weather, purely for recreation. Our aircraft are purpose-built to economically fill the Reality Check flight envelope and mission.

8th Ontario Sonex BBQ a Success!
08-18-08

The 8th Annual Sonex BBQ was a great success once again this year. Organized by Sonex builder Brian Heinmiller (Sonex SN 134) and sponsored by the Toronto Region chapter of the Recreational Aircraft Association, the event was held once again at the Brampton, ON airport CNC3. "We had good weather this year and we were delighted to have Chris and Joe McNally fly in with their gorgeous Sonex [SN 327] all the way from Carp, some 2 hours to the east," reports Brian. "We had 20 people with name tags and a bunch without, and drop-ins from the local club for the burgers, sausages, salad, and Nancy's brownies. Probably our biggest and best BBQ yet." "...There are some terrific airplanes in the works in this part of the world. Lots of good conversation, technical talk and acquaintances renewed. The Sonex attracts great people and we proved that once again on Saturday."

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2008 an Outstanding Week for Sonex Aircraft!
08-06-08

Sonex Aircraft just completed a highly successful EAA AirVenture 2008 fly-in. The Sonex booth was busier than ever before as the Best Performance Per Dollar price tags, and fuel pumps advertising the superior fuel economy of Sonex Aircraft brought many into the booth interested in truly affordable aviation.

The week began with our 5th Annual Open House event on Sunday, July 27. Over 200 people were in attendance and several customer-built Sonex Aircraft were on-display. The day wrapped-up with the traditional mass-taxi of customer and factory-prototype Sonex Aircraft across Wittman Regional Airport for arrival at AirVenture show grounds.

The Sonex Staff spent many hours discussing all things Sonex with current
and future builders and highlighted the benefits of attending the Sonex
Workshop
series. Consequently, the October 4th and 5th workshop is filling
up fast!

The new Machined Angle Component Kit and Pre-Assembled Main Wing Spar optional airframe kit upgrades, announced earlier this year, were the subject of much interest during the show. There was also much interest in the new AeroVee 2.1 Engine Kit due largely to its affordable price, economy and elegant design.

Phil Simon completed a cross country from California to Maine and back to Oshkosh to touch down in all Lower-48 United States in 3 separate long cross-country flights, proving the Sonex with the AeroVee is a capable Cross-Country platform for Sport Pilots. His aircraft was featured in the EAA Affordable Flying Center (see movie on www.AirVenture.org)

Several Forums were held throughout the week, including two forum presentations and one Theater in the Woods presentation regarding the E-Flight Initiative in which the E-Flight design team discussed the current state of the electric powerplant project. The E-Flight proof-of-concept electric powered Waiex was on display in the EAA Welcome Center all week.

A heartfelt Thank You to all Sonex Pilots who brought their aircraft! A total of fourteen customer-built Sonex Aircraft participated in the show: Phil Simon/Jerry Bassler (Sonex SN: 492), Tony Lewis (Sonex SN: 447), Wayne Andrews (Sonex SN: 35), David Koelzer (Sonex SN: 36), Wayne Daniels (Sonex SN: 444), Chris Williams (Sonex SN: 732), William Hooten (Sonex SN: 780), Robert Eley (Sonex SN: 388), Frank Basile (Sonex SN: 947), Bill Brown (Sonex SN: 642), Brian Heinmiller (Sonex SN: 134), Gary Housewright (Sonex SN: 362), Ronald Rasmussen (Sonex SN: 224), and Kerry Fores (Sonex SN: 9).
