Sonex First Flight: Michael Crowder
12-02-08

Congratulations to Michael Crowder of Cary, North Carolina whose Jabiru 3300 powered, Tri-Gear Sonex (S/N 293) flew for the first time on November 26. "Boy this airplane climbs like crazy!" writes Michael. "I had only two people to witness the event, which was nice. One of those is Wayne Andrews (Sonex #35), my hanger mate,  who I must thank for all his encouragement. I've also got to thank John Davis and Robert Eley, from the ASA for all their encouragement over the years. I've developed a close friendship with Peter van Schalkwyk and Robert Frost that has really motivated me. The Sonex community is the best!" Gold Wings are on the way to Michael!

Sonex Serial Number 1 Gets a Facelift
11-20-08

The first Sonex Aircraft prototype to fly, Sonex Serial Number 1, or “SX-1” has recently received a facelift. A fresh coat of “Sonex Yellow” paint, a new tan Leather Upholstery Package, and an upgrade to the newest AeroConversions accessories including the AeroConversions Trim System and Throttle Quadrant has updated the versatile workhorse to match the stunning good-looks of the rest of the Sonex factory fleet of prototypes. SX-1 was originally flown in 1998 as a Jabiru 2200 powered, center-stick taildragger. It is the bare-aluminum aircraft featured in the earliest chapters of The Sonex Story DVD. The aircraft has since pioneered the dual-stick control configuration, the Jabiru 3300 engine installation, the transition from steam gauges to all-digital instruments, and most recently has served as a seaplane, flying with a pair of amphibious floats. SX-1 is the aircraft that “started it all,” and it’s only fitting that it receives a brand-new look in the year of its 10th anniversary!

Sonex Postcard from Copperstate

Sonex Pilots Eric Scheppers (Sonex S/N 250, red aircraft pictured at right) and Dennis Burton (Sonex S/N 691, yellow and polished aluminum at right) recently made the trip to the 2008 Copperstate Fly-In at Casa Grande Arizona, and reported much interest in Sonex Aircraft from show attendees. Eric performed fly-bys for the show crowd and handed-out Sonex brochures to all who were interested (Eric pictured at-right pointing-out key portions of the Sonex literature to an interested show-goer). Our special thanks goes to Eric and Dennis for representing Sonex Aircraft, LLC as part of the growing grass-roots Sonex community!

AeroConversions Oil Separator

$95.00

Sonex Aircraft, LLC is pleased to announce the latest addition to the AeroConversions product line, the AeroConversions Oil Separator. The AeroConversions Oil Separator is a high-quality welded and powder-coated aluminum assembly designed to save oil vs. direct overboard crankcase breathers in normal flight operations. In addition, the AeroConversions Oil Separator features an extra-high-volume design offering enhanced inverted flight performance in entry-level aerobatic aircraft, allowing oil to be retained and returned to the engine during short-duration inverted and limited negative G maneuvers.

The AeroConversions Oil Separator’s angled design makes it a perfect fit for Sonex Aircraft angled firewalls, while retaining compatibility with traditional vertical firewall installations in other aircraft. The AeroConversions Oil Separator is economically priced at $95.00 and ships with comprehensive installation instructions suitable for a wide-range of engine installations.
