Happy Holidays from Sonex Aircraft!

Sonex Aircraft will once again be shut down over the holiday break for year-end maintenance and inventory. We will be closed from Monday, December 24th thru Tuesday, January 1st. We will be reopening for regular business on Wednesday, January 2nd.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank our dedicated and hard-working staff for a fantastic year in 2012, and we look forward to another great year in 2013 with the outstanding Sonex team. From all of us at Sonex Aircraft, we wish you a Happy Holiday Season!

We've just received another outstanding new video from the Huebbe family! "Fall Colors" is available on YouTube as well as our Sonex Flying Stories web page, and is the newest in a great series of short videos produced by Tom Huebbe (Sonex S/N 764) and his sons Mark (Sonex S/N 24) and John. The Huebbe family videos include great scripting, original music and professional editing combined with stunning ground, camera mount and air-to-air footage. They are obviously having a ball flying and making videos with their Sonex Aircraft!

Sonex Aircraft Featured in The Aviators TV!

Sonex Aircraft, LLC is extremely proud to be featured in Season 3 of the hit television series The Aviators! The 12th episode of the season features Sonex Aircraft, along with segments featuring the F-22 Raptor, and the first in a 2-part series following Mötley Crüe front man Vince Neil earning his pilot's license. Both John Monnett, Sonex founder and president, and CEO Jeremy Monnett are prominently featured in the segment hosted by Kurtis Arnold, including an extremely fun introductory flight experience with Jeremy and Kurtis in the Sonex Sport Trainer. The Aviators crew spent time with Sonex staff during two separate shoots, including one during the Sonex Open House and Homecoming Fly-In prior to AirVenture 2012.

The Aviators series boasts over 10 million viewers and can be found on public television stations across the United States, the Travel+Escape network in Canada, and in over 100 other countries worldwide, mainly on Discovery (check your local listings). New SubSonex Update Posted in the Hornets' Nest; SubSonex Featured in AOPA Publications!

The Hornets' Nest Research and Development Team is excited to release a new progress update for the SubSonex VVLJ (Very, Very Light Jet) program today! This progress update details the team's efforts in designing and prototyping JSX-2, a second-generation SubSonex that that will be a more "conforming" prototype to what a SubSonex kit aircraft product would consist of. A full list of features and improvements, along with several images, can be found in the full update on the Hornets' Nest R&D web site.

Today's update also details the design process for the SubSonex kit, which will be the most complete and easy-to-build kit ever offered by Sonex Aircraft. Also included is a preliminary update about our SubSonex kit sales and transition training strategies. Read More!

In addition, the SubSonex is featured in the December, 2012 issues of AOPA Pilot and Turbine Pilot magazines! The article, "Jet in a Box: Some Assembly Required" is written by SubSonex lead test pilot Bob Carlton.

Sonex Aircraft in the News: New Video Covering Sonex Aircraft "By Dan Johnson"

Aviation journalist Dan Johnson has just released a video interview of Sonex Aircraft CEO Jeremy Monnett via his "By Dan Johnson" web site in-conjunction with the Light Sport and Ultralight Flyer Web video magazine. The video, filmed at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2012, provides a great overview of the Sonex and AeroConversions product line.

Sonex Builders' Events: Great Southern Sonex Gathering Celebrates 10th Anniversary!
11-12-12

The 10th Annual Great Southern Sonex Gathering was held on Saturday, November 3rd at Coulter Airflield in Bryan Texas. The event was sponsored by Sonex builders Mike Singleton and Robert Barber, as well as EAA Chapter 1531. Eight Sonex aircraft and over 60 participants were on-hand for the event despite persistent heavy fog and hard rain throughout Central and Eastern Texas. Several Sonex rides were given by both Mike and Robert in-between the spells of bad weather, and Robert was even able to demonstrate some high-altitude aerobatics for spectators on the ground.

Door prizes were donatd by Sonex Aircraft, Wicks Aircraft Supply, Aircraft Spruce & Specialty and several individual contributors. Wicks donated the Grand Prize of an XCOM headset. Custom GSSG shirts, caps and stickers were also available. In addition to giving rides, Robert and Mike were on-hand to answer thousands of questions about their Sonex projects, and Onex builders Phil Davis and Derek Hodges were also available to answer questions about their single-place aircraft.

"Each year this event gets more fun," writes Mike and Robert, "and the Sonex people get ever more enthusiastic."

Sonex Aircraft, LLC would like to extend a huge thanks to Mike Singleton, Robert Barber and EAA Chapter 1531, as well as all participating pilots & attendees for making this grass-roots Sonex builder event so successful for the 10th year! Congratulations to Frank Davis of Minden, Nevada whose standard gear, Jabiru 3300 powered Xenos (S/N X0019) flew for the first time on October 30th! "First flights uneventful," writes Frank. "P.S. Did I mention that I am 77.6 years old?"

Congratulations also go to Phil LeBlanc of Longwood, Florida whose standard gear, AeroVee powered Xenos (S/N X0036) flew for the first time on November 2nd! "Plane flew hands-off and plane and engine preformed perfectly," writes Phil. "Smooth, easy handling on the ground and in the air...real joy to fly. Many thanks to my wife, Jo, and the Sonex team for their support."
