“John Monnett: from Sonerai to Sonex” Biography Released;
Book to Debut at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2007

July 16, 2007, Oshkosh, WI

A new biography about Sonex Aircraft, LLC founder John Monnett “John Monnett: from Sonerai to Sonex” has been released, and signed copies will be available for sale at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2007 in the Sonex and AeroConversions display: North Aircraft Display area, Booth 464. Written by Sonex builder Jim Cunningham, “John Monnett: from Sonerai to Sonex” is the story of a kit plane designer, innovator, air racer, world record holder, EAA Hall of Famer, and his many airplanes. While pursuing his own aviation interests, Monnett inspired and enabled thousands of others to build and fly affordable aircraft.  From the Sonerai, sketched at his kitchen table, to pioneering engine conversions, to the Sonex's simple construction methods and outstanding performance, John Monnett is a flag-bearer for grassroots aviation.  The book covers all of his aircraft designs. His ingenuity and successes with simplifying airplane design has helped make owning an airplane affordable for decades. Author Jim Cunningham has done a wonderful job of detailing the technical aspects of the airplanes in harmony with highlighting the efforts of many others who worked with Monnett, including his wife, Betty, and long-time friend and collaborator, Pete Buck.

“The Monnett family and friends are extremely pleased to see this book published and we enjoyed it immensely,” commented Sonex Aircraft, LLC General Manager and CEO Jeremy Monnett. “This book represents a historical archive of the early days of my father’s interest in aviation and is proof that anyone with a strong work ethic, a dream, and a desire to see that dream become a reality can accomplish many great things. We are most proud of John’s ability to identify an end goal and challenge not only himself, but the team around him as well, to see it through. This has resulted in many great aircraft designs being made available to the world’s aircraft homebuilders at a fraction of the cost of most of their competition. Any reader of this book will more thoroughly understand the rich history that led to the development of the current Sonex, Waiex, and Xenos aircraft along with the AeroVee Engine Kit, AeroCarb, and the rest of the AeroConversions product line.”

“John Monnett: from Sonerai to Sonex” is an 8.5” x 11” soft-bound volume that is 150 pages in length and includes over 300 photographs, illustrations and 3-view drawings, including 16 pages of color images. Published by Wind Canyon Books, “John Monnett: from Sonerai to Sonex” can be purchased for $30 at: or by toll-free phone: 1-800-952-7007. Checks or money orders for $30.00 plus $4.00 shipping may be sent to:  Wind Canyon Books, PO Box 511, Brawley, CA  92227.
