Sonex Earns Small Business Success Award

Sonex Aircraft, LLC was presented with a Small Business Success Stories award for Unique Products at a banquet held on October 18, 2006 at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh campus. The 2006 awards, sponsored by Corporate Report Wisconsin magazine, the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh College of Business, and Associated Bank, were presented to small businesses in which creativity and innovation are keys to their success.

This award was earned entirely through significant contributions from a very large group of people… not just the extremely talented and dedicated Sonex staff but the blood, sweat, and tears of manufacturing partners, suppliers and our incredible customers who supply their own hard work to build and fly their dream. Thanks to all for making this possible!

33rd Sonex Workshop Draws Capacity Crowd

The 33rd Sonex Aircraft Builder Workshop was held October 7-8, and was filled to capacity with well-over 70 attendees and guests! We once again enjoyed great weather for this workshop, allowing factory prototypes and customer-built aircraft to make fly-bys on both days. Special thanks goes-out to Sonex Aircraft builders Wayne Daniels and Drew Waterworth for bringing their aircraft and making fly-bys. On Saturday evening, Joe Norris from EAA's Aviation Services department spoke to attendees about registering experimental/amateur-built aircraft with the FAA, issues relating to the Sport Pilot rule, as well as the rules governing self-launched gliders like the Xenos. Bob Mackey of Falcon Insurance, managers of the EAA Aircraft Insurance Plan, was also on-hand to talk about insuring homebuilt aircraft. The next workshop is scheduled for February 3-4, 2007. Space is limited, sign-up today!

Sonex Participates in Committee to Protect Amateur-Building Privileges

On Wednesday and Thursday September 6th and 7th, Sonex Aircraft, LLC CEO Jeremy Monnett participated in the first meeting of the FAA's Amateur-Built Aviation Rulemaking Committee, held in Chicago. With mounting concern over builder-assist programs that may be stepping over the 51 percent line without adequate customer involvement, the FAA has assembled this committee including 17 representatives of government, general-aviation groups, and aircraft kit manufacturers to examine the problem and propose solutions that will preserve the rights of amateur builders.

"Sonex Aircraft was pleased to participate in this work group," said Monnett. "We are confident that the talent assembled in this committee will be able to come up with both short and long-term solutions to address any FAA concerns about the future of the highly successful Amateur-Built Aircraft Rules."

During lasts week's meeting the group broadly agreed on its interest to preserve the original language and intent of the amateur-building regulations, and that its focus should be on the trend of builder or commercial assistance circumventing the intent of the regulations and thereby performing the majority of the construction tasks on behalf of the customer. Sonex Aircraft, LLC is committed to preserving the current privileges of amateur builders in the United States.

The committee's next meeting is scheduled to take place in November in Washington, D.C.
