Owens Sonex N577CG first flight- 10/17/2018, Phase 1 testing completed 3/26/2019. The registration number is based on my first training airplane in 1988, a Cessna 150, N66577 and my daughter Cami and son Glason. The idea to build an airplane started after my first trip to AirVenture with my son and his first aircraft ride that we shared in a Bell 47. After the Bell 47 flight my son saying: "Dad, I want to go flying with you" has turned into an expensive but very rewarding suggestion. I attended AirVenture for many years with my dad as young person. Unfortunately my dad passed away 3/27/2011 and was not able to see it fly. He and I are both huge fans of the Sig RC model airplane Thunderbird color scheme based on the Thunderbirds years with the T-38. Eventually the cowl and wheel pants will be painted to complete the scheme.

My Waiex flew for .6 hrs yesterday at Mt Washington Regional KHIE. It flew wonderfully, no surprises. The Viking engine ran perfectly and the heat supplied by engine coolant was quite welcome as the temp was in the 30s at altitude. So N59YK, my WaiKing, is now officially an airplane! It was a long time in building due to many issues but well worth the trip. Thanks especially go to my ultra patient and helpful wife Cathy, Mike Smith for encouragement /help airframewise and Casey Lyon and Don Bowen with engine help/info. Of course thanks also goes to many unnamed others along the way. Keep on building it's worth it.

Hereby I like to report Waiex-B WXB0017 is complete and flew on 23 SEP 2018 for the first time in the skies over Wichita Falls, TX. The Waiex-B is Aerovee Turbo powered and obivously in most fun Tailwheel configuration. I didnt put the fairings on or give it a pretty paintjob yet. It flies pretty nice with a nice crisp response to the aerobatic ailerons. Despite that the day of the first flight started with marginal weather, it conluded with a successful first hour of flight time in my own built airplane powered by own built engine - This is amazing. Hard to beat that feeling - taking flight in N69YX. Thank you Sonex Team, Juergen Voll

I flew the Onex on September 10, 2018 and Tom James flew it the second time for a longer period of time. The aircraft flew as expected, and we have been flying our Sonex and enjoying it for several years.

SubSonex 008 made its first flight on August 12. Climbed to altitude and performed a few basic maneuvers along with several approaches to stall at various flap settings. I have made two more flights since then, expanding on the basics as I work through the test phase.

My kit for the Aerovee powered, tri gear Sonex (plans no. 1586) took to the air on the 26th of June this year. I flew the first flight at Perth, Western Australiaís GA Airport at Jandakot. The picture of the first lift off, taken by a friend, is attached. Iím very impressed with the way the aircraft flies. It has very good manners on the ground, has very nicely harmonised controls and gave me no concerns during the flight. I have had some five years of building the Sonex and have enjoyed most of the process. The support, from my Technical councillors from The Sport Aircraft Association of Australia and from Kerry at Sonex, has smoothed over the occasional areas where assistance was required. Over the past few years I have read many posts on Facebook, marking the successful conclusion of Sonex builders all over the globe. I am happy to have joined their ranks. Thank you for a great aeroplane.

Sunday June 14th 2018 was a grand day. My Waiex132 took to the skies for its maiden flight. It flew just as expected with no problems. What a rush and experience to be able to build your own plane then give it its first flight. Thanks, Sonex for a great design. While building and yet today I read the Sonex Builders net every day to glean new ideas in helping build and improve my plane. I want to thank Bill Larson (Sonex builder) for his Tech Inspections and support along the way. Also, Morrie Caudill (Onex Builder) led the way to my decision to build at age 70 when he at age 80 started building his ONEX. Thanks Morrie for your encouragement and technical insights. In preparation for flight I watched numerous YouTube videos of other Sonex-Waiex owners to glean knowledge as to how to fly the plane. My previous flight experience has been in a Champ and Ercoup. It is great help to have a Sonex Community willing to share their experience for others to take advantage of. My ground crew was Bill Larson and Kent Lynch

My Onex made it's first flight with my friend and test pilot Glen Oliphant on June 17, 2018. The flight went well and we are proceeding with the "test phase". The engine is the Hummel 2400 85 hp with a Prince 54x48 P tip prop. Performance numbers unavailable yet but the engine seems very strong.handling is much like my RV-7.light and quick.
