Advocacy Alert: Take A Stand Against User Fees for Recreational Aircraft

Sonex Aircraft, LLC is alerting all customers and aviation enthusiasts against a new effort by lawmakers to institute user fees for General Aviation. Although this new proposed $100 per flight fee structure exempts recreational piston aircraft, non-piston recreational aircraft are not exempted, potentially threatening the operation of gliders, balloons, recreational jet aircraft, electric aircraft and unpowered ultralights (hang gliders and paragliders).

SubSonex Jet Makes First Flight!

Sonex Aircraft, LLC is excited to announce that the SubSonex jet aircraft prototype, JSX-1, made its maiden flight today, August 10, 2011 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, WI. The SubSonex was piloted by air show performer and owner of Desert Aerospace LLC, Bob Carlton. The flight lasted approximately 14 minutes and focused on exploring the low-end of the aircraft's speed envelope, including stalls, and a low approach in the landing configuration.

Sonex Aircraft, LLC is proud to announce that the number one prototype of the new Onex single-place, folding-wing kit aircraft made its first flight yesterday, January 27, 2011 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, WI. Piloted by Sonex General Manager, CEO, and Onex designer Jeremy Monnett, the AeroVee-powered N111NX made an extensive flight orbiting the field. Monnett also made a low approach before landing, signifying his satisfaction with the initial handling and performance of the aircraft.

Sonex CEO and General Manager Jeremy Monnett recently wagered Sonex Order Entry staffer Stephanie Davis: If the Bears won the NFC Championship game on January 23rd, Stephanie would wear Bears gear, if the Packers won, Jeremy would don Packers garb. When asked by prospective builders "how much shop space do I need to build a Sonex, Waiex or Xenos?" the staff at Sonex Aircraft will sometimes reply with "where there's a will, there's a way." Sonex Aircraft are routinely constructed in single-car garages and other small shop spaces. Through the years, we've seen customers building Sonex parts in mobile home trailers and apartment living rooms, and have seen assembled AeroVee's used as show-piece decoration under glass-top coffee tables while awaiting completion of an airframe, but Michael Jackson's Xenos SN X0042 project takes the cake for us.

E-Flight Electric Powered Waiex First Flight!

The Sonex Aircraft, LLC E-Flight Initiative proof-of-concept electric-powered Waiex aircraft achieved its first flight today, December 3, 2010 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, WI. Piloted by Sonex Founder and E-Flight team leader John Monnett, N270DC made a short hop on runway 27, intended to be a conservative non-pattern flight to break ground-effect and analyze in-flight system performance as the next step in testing. This short flight punctuates four years of development by the E-Flight design team in engineering, building and testing one of the most advanced electric flight packages ever conceived.

Andy Carter, Sonex SN#1109 has been featured in a recent issue of LAA Light Aviation magazine in the UK. Andy is the builder of the first customer-completed Sonex Aircraft to fly in the United Kingdom since Sonex dealer Silver Fern Microlights obtained LAA approval allowing Sonex projects to be built in the UK.
