Sonex Builder Events: 9th Annual Northeast Sonex Fly-In Coming-up September 9th!
08-18-17

The organizers of the Northeast Sonex Fly-In are busy preparing for their 9th Annual event, coming up soon on September 9th!

If you have an interest in the Sonex aircraft; if you just like airplanes and enjoy hanging around airports; if you live in the New England/Northeast area, then this event is for you!

This event was conceived because there are now nearly a dozen or more flying Sonex/Waiex/Xenos/Onex aircraft in the area, and even more active builders, as well as those considering building.

Some Sonex owners may be willing to give rides, which is a great opportunity for current and would-be builders to try out the ride!

New Insurance Option for Sonex Aircraft
08-17-17

Sonex Aircraft is pleased to announce that First Flight Insurance Group has approved Sonex, Waiex and Onex aircraft models for their USUA Insurance Program!

The USUA insurance program offers 3rd party liability insurance and accepts orientation flight time in-type with regular pilots (no requirement for flight time with a CFI), or time in similar handling aircraft. The program has an affordable fixed annual premium, there is no charge for a second pilot on the policy, and no charge for adding additional insured landowners.

First Flight Insurance Group's USUA program is a great option to serve many of our customers’ insurance needs in our most-popular aircraft models, especially during Phase I of kit aircraft operating limitations.

AirVenture 2017 A Record-Breaking Show!
08-02-17

AirVenture 2017 is in the books as a record-setting year for EAA in-terms of attendance, aircraft activity and attractions. The show didn't disappoint for Sonex Aircraft either!

Sonex enjoyed great attendance for it's Open House and Homecoming Fly-In and throughout the week at the Sonex AirVenture exhibit booth.

AirVenture 2017 kicked-off on Sunday (a day early) for the traditional Sonex Aircraft Open House and Homecoming Fly-In event. Many customer aircraft were in attendance, along with drive-in traffic with both current and prospective Sonex Aircraft builders and pilots. As is tradition, the event wrapped-up on Sunday afternoon with a mass taxi "arrival" of Sonex aircraft across the airport to AirVenture grounds. In addition to the customer aircraft that arrived for the Homecoming Fly-In, many more customer Sonex aircraft arrived throughout the week, parked either in the homebuilt display parking area adjacent to the Sonex exhibit booth, or in the homebuilt camping area.

A record number of Onex aircraft were flown-in to AirVenture 2017, with five customer Onex's on-display at the show. The Onex was also a very popular model for prospective customers this year. AirVenture 2017 also marked the first customer-built SubSonex Personal Jet to ever be displayed at AirVenture Oshkosh. John Corneal's beautiful SubSonex was exhibited in the Homebuilders Hangar at AirVenture and took home a Kit Champion - Bronze Lindy award. Congratulations to John!

Sonex-B, Waiex-B Onex, Xenos and SubSonex factory prototype aircraft were all on-display in the Sonex exhibit booth# 622 in the North Aircraft Display Area, along with AeroVee and AeroVee Turbo engines. The factory prototype Sonex-B made it's public debut, showing off the Sonex tail configuration and tricycle gear congiruation with all of the popular new B-Model features. The Sonex-B factory prototype also sports the dual screen Dynon Skyview HDX Quick Panel system. Interest in the new Xenos-B configuration was also high at the show. Customers also stopped-in to see the new AeroConversions Rotax Engine Mount Attach Bars, available for Rotax installation on any aircraft.

In addition to activies in the Sonex exhibit booth, Sonex factory tours held all week were very well attended, and several forum presentations were given by Sonex staff in the AirVenture forum buildings. Bob Carlton of Vertigo AirShows performed two afternoon airshows in the SubSonex JSX-2, along with the SubSonex Fire & Lights night pyro airshow on Wednesday night. Bob's Super Salto jet powered sailplane also made a return to AirVenture with a night show on Saturday night.

Our sincere thanks go to all current and prospective customers, Sonex staff and EAA staff & volunteers for making AirVenture Oshkosh 2017 such a huge success for Sonex Aircraft, LLC!

Thanks guys!!! It is a great honor to finally understand that this very nimble aircraft is going to be so much fun to get to know better, and I too, now have 'Big Johns' Sonex grin as shown so often in the ads!" Sonex Offers Rotax 912-Series Engine Mounts for Legacy Aircraft; Rotax Attach Bars Available from AeroConversions Products!

Sonex Aircraft Rotax
Engine Mounts:

See All Pricing and

Due to popular demand, Sonex Aircraft is now offering Rotax engine mounts for legacy Sonex, Waiex and Xenos aircraft! Orders are now being accepted for engine mounts in both standard and tricycle gear configurations.

Additionally, machined Rotax Attach Bars are being offered by AeroConversions Products for use with custom Rotax 912 engine mounts on any aircraft. The AeroConversions Rotax Attach Bars were developed for B-Model and now in Legacy Sonex Aircraft, and eliminate the need for expensive and complex Rotax ring mounts and Rotax mount rubbers. As a bed mount system, AeroConversions Rotax Attach Bars bolt directly to Rotax 912-series engines and are designed to use simple AeroConversions AeroVee Shock Mount Rubbers, eliminating the complex shock mount geometry found in other Rotax bed mount systems.

Sonex Aircraft builders wishing to install a Rotax 912-series engine will need our new engine mounts, AeroConversions Rotax Attach Bars, AeroVee Rubber Shock Mounts, and a 1-3/8" prop hub extension (Sonex recommends Saber Mfg. PN 1.375x5 Rotax 912 or equivalent.)
