B-Model Kits and Xenos Quick Build Kit Added to FAA NKET Eligible Kit List
08-19-16

Sonex Aircraft is pleased to announce that FAA National Kit Evaluation Team (NKET) checklists for the new Sonex and Waiex B-Model kits, and the new Xenos Motorglider Quick Build Kit have been added to the FAA's online list of eligible kits! Listing on the FAA's kit list signifies that an aircraft kit may allow an amateur builder to meet the major portion, or "51 percent rule," requirement of 14 CFR section 21.191(g) for experimental/amateur-built aircraft.

More information about the NKET process, along with links to our current kit checklists may be found on our Aircraft Certification Page.

Builders use these checklists to simplify the airworthiness inspection process for their completed aircraft. NKET checklists are especially important for kit sales in many foreign markets, where U.S. Experimental Amateur Built rules are often used as boilerplate definitions of their own regulations.

Jabiru 2200 Mounts Fit UL-260-Series Engines!
08-17-16

Jabiru 2200/UL-260 Engine Mounts:

Did you know: Sonex Aircraft Jabiru 2200 engine mounts for Legacy Sonex and Waiex airframes also fit the popular UL Power UL-260 series of engines? A study conducted with UL Power representatives and Sonex engineers during AirVenture 2016 confirmed that Sonex engine mounts for the Jabiru 2200 engine will fit UL-260 series engines without interference.

During the conclusive study, engine mounts (both standard gear and tricycle gear) were fitted to demo engines from the UL Power AirVenture exhibit at Sonex factory headquarters. Further study revealed that the installation weight of UL-260 engines fit perfectly within the structural capabilities of existing Jabiru 2200 engine mounts.

Because AeroVee and AeroVee Turbo engines have won favor over the Jabiru 2200 in the Sonex fleet in recent years, we have several 2200 engine mounts available at clearance prices while supplies last:

  • SNX-P11-08 Std-Gear Jabiru 2200 Engine Mount: $1,200 (regularly $1,919.50)

  • SNX-P12-08 Tri-Gear Jabiru 2200 Engine Mount: $1,000 (regularly $1,579.50)

We only have Qty 5 each available, so Order Today!

AirVenture 2016 a Great Show for Sonex!
08-09-16

The new B-Model was the star of the Sonex Aircraft booth at AirVenture 2016!

Many took the opportunity to try-on the new B-Model and experience its enlarged cockpit space!

The AeroVee, AeroVee Turbo and other AeroConversions products were also popular items at AirVenture 2016.

As-always, the SubSonex Personal Jet attracted a lot of attention at AirVenture.

Sonex Aircraft, LLC once again exhibited at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh at our home base, Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, WI! The 2016 event was a great show for Sonex Aircraft!

Events kicked-off with the annual Sonex Open House and Homecoming Fly-In at the Sonex Aircraft factory. Although weather hampered early AirVenture arrivals this year, several customer aircraft still made it to the Sunday event.

The Waiex B-Model prototype was on-display for the first time at AirVenture, while the tri-gear Sonex B-Model prototype could be seen in-progress at the Sonex Factory. Response to the new B-Model design continues to be tremendous. Many attendees got a chance to try-on the enlarged cockpit and check-out the enhanced B-Model features. Just like the B-Model's Sun 'n Fun debut, feedback from many prospective builders at AirVenture indicated that B-Model design changes addressed everything they wished the Sonex line of aircraft had in the past, renewing their interest in a Sonex or Waiex project.

The SubSonex Personal Jet was once again very popular at AirVenture 2016, with many new prospective jet builders stopping by to check-out this amazing aircraft. Bob Carlton flew the SubSonex in airshow performances at AirVenture again this year, including the Wednesday and Saturday night airshows. His outstanding performances drove large numbers of people to the Sonex booth spaces to see the SubSonex. Our special thanks to Bob and Laurie Carlton of Vertigo Airshows for once again showing-off the SubSonex and all of its capabilities so spectacularly.

Daily Sonex factory tours were held at AirVenture again this year with capacity crowds, and forums were presented on all subjects Sonex and AeroConversions during the week. Sonex held its annual Hangar Party on Monday night of the show again this year as a "Thank You" to all Sonex Aircraft customers, supporters and family members.

Sonex Aircraft held a joint press conference with Uniworld, LLC at AirVenture, announcing plans for expanded sales to China and efforts to make kit aircraft a larger part of the growing general aviation infrastructure in the country. The announcement received a lot of attention from attendees and press at the show!

AirVenture attendees also had an opportunity to see new Sonex Aircraft hardware kits provided by WBParts. With WBParts SmartKits, hardware will now be a part of Sonex Aircraft kit packages!

If you missed us at AirVenture 2016, be sure to visit our factory anytime, and make plans to visit AirVenture next summer!

Despite weather, the Sonex Aircraft Open House and Homecoming Fly-In was well-attended again in 2016.

Francis Chao of Uniworld, LLC, a trailblazer of GA growth in China, speaks to the AirVenture 2016 press corps about Sonex Aircraft's developing role in the emerging market.

A factory prototype Sonex Sport Trainer was on-display Uniworld's China Pavilion all week, celebrating and promoting our new efforts in the Chinese aviation marketplace.

Whether looking at kit aircraft or watching airshow, the view is always best at the Sonex Aircraft booth!

John Monnett speaks to visiting Wisconsin legislators about the role of Wisconsin businesses like Sonex in the GA economy.

Sonex Factory Tour attendees got to see the inside operations at Sonex, and on Saturday they even got to see Bob and Laurie Carlton rack pyro for the SubSonex Fire & Lights Night Airshow!

Photographer Jerry Cummings once again captured a stunning time-lapse photo of the SubSonex Fire & Lights Night Airshow, performed by Bob Carlton!

During the Tuesday afternoon Airshow, Bob Carlton performed his full aerobatic display with the SubSonex. It was a spectacular show, and smooth air allowed Bob to exceed 295 mph on his high-speed pass!

"Transition training in June also made the first flight less tense with a special thanks to Bob Helm for all of the coaching from the right seat during my training/flight review over a weekend; with thanks to Kerry and Joe [Sonex Tech Support] also for all those questions answered during the build. Big thanks to my wife for lending the sometimes needed additional hand - she is now fully cleco and pop rivet qualified - and for making my upholstery.
