Sonex Aircraft is pleased to announce Sub-Kits for the Sonex, Waiex and Xenos! These Sub-Kits are designed to give Sonex Aircraft builders more flexibility and options for constructing the already industry-leading Sonex Aircraft kit values. If you're looking for a way to spread the cost of building a Sonex Aircraft over-time, Sub-Kits are a great way to build without obtaining financing. Once this building path is selected, the builder may purchase Sub-Kits at their own pace of construction and spread out the project investment over the life of the project.

Note: Sub-Kits may be purchaed in any sequence. Purchasing multiple Sub-Kits in one order will reduce crating a shipping costs for your project. See full pricing details on our Pricing Page.

Sonex Aircraft Tail Kits

Sonex, Waiex and Xenos Tail Kits allow potential builders to get started with a minimal initial investment and gives them a great opportunity to see for themselves the level of detail and simplicity designed into Sonex Aircraft.

Sonex Aircraft Tail Kits Include:

  • All Complete Airframe Kit Components required to build Sonex, Waiex or Xenos Tail.
    • Sonex Tail Kit includes parts to build Horizontal and Vertical Stabilizers, Rudder, Elevators, including Rivets, and Fiberglass Tail Tips.
    • Waiex and Xenos Tail Kits include parts to build "Y Tail" Stabilizers, Ruddervators, including Rivets, and Fiberglass Tail Tips.
  • Set of Preview Plans detailing construction of tail only.
  • All applicable Machined Angle Components included as standard.
  • All Hardware Required for Tail Assembly.
    • In order to provide a complete "get started" package, the minimal amount of hardware required for tail assembly is included in Sonex Aircraft Tail Kits. All other Sub-Kits require separate purchase of hardware from other sources. Read more about Kit Hardware.
       
Sonex Aircraft Fuselage Kits
 
Sonex Aircraft Fuselage Kits Include:
  • All Complete Airframe Kit Components required to build Sonex, Waiex or Xenos Fuselage.
    • Note: Welded Components, Spinner/Crush Plate and Cowling not included: There is no requirement to select stick, landing gear or engine configuration at this stage (applicable parts included in Stick Configuration and Landing Gear/Engine Configuration Kits).
  • Machined Angle Component Fuselage Parts Available as Upgrade.

Plans Purchase: Customer must purchase plans prior to purchasing Fuselage, Wing, Stick Configuration, or Landing Gear/Engine Configuration Sub-Kits (not needed for Tail Kit). Plans must include the Waiver of Liability and Articles of Agreement forms. Waiex and Xenos plans not available for individual purchase.

Sonex Aircraft Wing Kits Include:
  • All Complete Airframe Kit Components required to build Sonex, Waiex or Xenos Wings.
    • Note: Welded Components not included: There is no requirement to select stick configuration at this stage (applicable parts included in Stick Configuration Kit).
  • Machined Angle Component Wing Parts Available as Upgrade.
  • Pre-Assembled Main Wing Spar Upgrade Available. (Sonex and Waiex only: Machined Angle Components not available for Xenos wing.)

Plans Purchase: Customer must purchase plans prior to purchasing Fuselage, Wing, Stick Configuration, or Landing Gear/Engine Configuration Sub-Kits (not needed for Tail Kit). Plans must include the Waiver of Liability and Articles of Agreement forms. Waiex and Xenos plans not available for individual purchase.

Sonex Aircraft Stick Configuration Kits Include:
  • All Welded Component Kit parts required for Control Stick Configuration, along with welded components common to all airframe configurations.
    • Pricing determined by Stick Configuration choice (Center our Dual Stick).
    • Note: Waiex and Xenos available only with Dual Stick Configuration.

Plans Purchase: Customer must purchase plans prior to purchasing Fuselage, Wing, Stick Configuration, or Landing Gear/Engine Configuration Sub-Kits (not needed for Tail Kit). Plans must include the Waiver of Liability and Articles of Agreement forms. Waiex and Xenos plans not available for individual purchase.

Sonex Aircraft Landing Gear and Engine Configuration Kits
 
Sonex Aircraft Landing Gear and Engine Configuration Kits Include:
  • All Complete Airframe Kit Components required for Landing Gear and Engine Configuration.
    • Includes Engine Mount, Cowling, Spinner/Crush Plate for your choice of engine configuration.
    • Includes Landing Gear Components for your choice of Standard or Tricycle Gear Configuration. Note: Tricycle Gear not available for Xenos.
    • Pricing determined by Landing Gear Configuration choice.

Plans Purchase: Customer must purchase plans prior to purchasing Fuselage, Wing, Stick Configuration, or Landing Gear/Engine Configuration Sub-Kits (not needed for Tail Kit). Sonex Aircraft Sub-Kits include all the same labor and time saving features as Sonex Aircraft Complete Airframe Kits including laser-cut skins with pilot holes, pre-formed wing and tail ribs, welded components, formed aluminum, and pre-molded fiberglass parts. What's Not Included

Hardware: Sonex airframe kits do not include Hardware (nuts, bolts, screws, solid rivets, etc) and some Miscellaneous Parts, however, both Wicks Aircraft Supply and Aircraft Spruce and Specialty offer Sonex, Waiex and Xenos hardware kits. Engine: There are three approved engines for Sonex aircraft: AeroVee 2180 80hp; Jabiru 3300 120hp; Jabiru 2200 80hp. To find out more, view the Engines page.

Propeller: Sonex Aircraft, LLC works very closely with propeller manufacturers to engineer optimum props for Sonex airframe and engine combinations. To find out more, view the Propellers page.

Instruments: Builders have many options when it comes to selecting instruments. Sonex sells the MGL Avionics Stratomaster and Grand Rapids EIS instrument packages direct to Sonex aircraft builders. To find out more, view the Instruments page.

Upholstry: Builders can make their own upholstry, or choose from Sonex Aircraft's selection of attractive upholstry packages. For more information about Sonex interiors, view the Upholstry page.

Tools: The Sonex, Waiex and Xenos were designed to be constructed with minimal tools, however a small investment in your workshop will be required to get the job done. For more information about tools, view the Required Tools page.
